Tips on Garden Design

I know you probably have read gardening books that gave you some tips on garden design, and been told by everybody that has ever planted a garden and thinks they too are a professional gardener, and wish to share their secret tips on garden design.

Who am I to change lanes or advise delivery on such a well traveled road, a job done so much better by my predecessors? I would but ask your indulgence as I try to share the impressions form the scenes I beheld and impart through my gardeners eye.

Have you ever been driving in the country, and as you pass an average home, suddenly the whole place takes on a surprising beautiful eye catching quality. It’s sort of shocking, realizing what it was that brought on this awesome transformation.

First glance it was just any ordinary home on a piece of sculptured ground, until your eyes were transfixed by the garden. Without a doubt in your mind you knew this is the way a garden was meant to be.

Such a feast of beauty for the eyes, that it enhanced the entire grounds and home. I would have gladly taken notes from this man for his Tips on Garden Design.

These people I must admit had an eye for beauty he was an earth artist, and deserved a trophy for this beautiful gardening design. She had impeccable taste for color

I have often likened a well designed garden unto an artist’s use of oils or a sculptured masterpiece, the rows being his brush, or chisel, the plants his paints, the ground his easel and canvas.

Some of the garden paths were made of colored gravel, while other paths were made up of different shades of soil. These methods would work in larger gardens as well. An expanse of manicured lawn space broke up the beds of flowered plants and the soon to be harvested food portions of the garden.

I remember thinking that the person living here must have held an important stressful job. In the middle of this expanse of garden beauty was a pond built with different kinds of stacked marble, shale, and arranged white limestone. Colored underwater lights lit the pond center. There a statue of a maiden stood pouring water from a pitcher.

On the right side a little vine-covered gazebo held two chairs facing out over the pond. You could tell it was arranged to encompass the majority of a well earned artistic endeavor.
Two my way of thinking a man built this for the pleasure and love of his wife, the home, the fenced in yard, the sculptured earth masterpiece. As well to relieve the stress of there daily lives, so you see a garden can be of use for many things besides just food.

Gardening is War

Organic insect control and natural insect control is needed because Gardening is War it would be simple if it was not for the insects that invade the ground that you plant your seeds in. Though there are beneficial garden insects you must always be on your guard against there evil relatives of those hungry vermin and their endless attacks on your garden.

Gardening is War and these warriors of the insect world are easily spotted once you learn there shape, size, and color. A healthy garden will always be enhanced by the amount of personal care that is given to it.

There are a COUPLE of ways TO USE organic garden pest control (YOUR TWO HANDS) HA HA to help aid your garden in its growth cycle – healthy ways that are, without the use of insecticides.

By keeping the soil cultivated and aerated earthworms are sure to enjoy this type of environment, and where the worms reside so does the early birds and worms are not the only thing on their morning menu.

Some insects feed on other harmful insects. Some kinds of ladybugs do this as well. With a helping hand from mister warts himself – that is right, he is a benefit to a garden. The culprit of whom I speak is that wart-riddled frog called the toad! The appetite for insects of this little creature at a feeding is a site to behold. “Hint!” The toad feeds at night. During the day it likes to rest in the humid shade.

The two types of insects are easily spotted by the damage they do to your garden. The caterpillars in all their varieties and, of course, the dreaded locust, singularly known as the grasshopper, and the beetle. There are the slugs, also cut worms, the dastardly tomato worm, all of the variety that likes to eat the young succulent plants.

While the others are more of the vampire-like insects. They like to drink the “life’s blood”, such as lice and mosquitoes, easier to find, I might add, than other family members. Other insects have their favorite vegetable diet as well.

Home Grown Herbs

Growing a herb garden, it is easily planted and just as easily grown and maintained. While herbs might not seem as significant as other plants, you’ll enjoy the constant availability of fresh herbs.

When choosing the herbs you wish to grow merely look in your kitchen cabinets there you will find the perfect list to fit your garden needs.

When looking for an area to put your herb garden, you should remember that the soil should have decent drainage. If the soil gets over watered, you have little to no chance of ever boasting healthy plants.

One of the best ways to fix the drainage problem is to dig a foot or so deep in the ground, and put a layer of chipped or broken rock down then replace the dirt This will allow for water drain off.

When you begin planting herbs, you might be tempted to purchase the most expensive starter plants. However, with herbs it is much easier to grow them from seed so why use starter plants.

Therefore you can save a good deal of money by sticking with seeds. Some herbs grow at a fast rate. You plant a mint plant in an enclosed area like a clay pot.If you do not it will take over your garden.

As a matter fact you can pretty much grow herbs year round, outside during the summer. With an artificial light system they can be grown inside in pots in the winter. With this method come spring time you will have starters plants in abundance.

You should wait until your plant has been growing for at least six or seven months before doing any harvesting. Give your plant time for maturing this will assure years of premium herbs come harvest time.

Once harvested you will want to add your herbs to your kitchen, When you are ready to start drying them out. Some advocate a quick dry by placing them on a sheets and baking them at 165 degrees for between two to four hrs.

Myself I prefer the O natural method of slow drying, as far as I am concerned there some things that nature just does better. I find that I prefer the slow aged taste to herbs.

Storing your herbs for later use, keep them in a plastic or glass containers I find crocks work well.Be careful what you use to store your herbs in because they can absorb the taste of the container.

During the first few weeks of storage check the herbs for moisture that may accumulate. This erases any chance of the dreaded mildew contaminating your herbs.

Consider growing a herb garden. It might require a bit of work at first but the end results will be well worth the effort.

The rare moment in a persons life when one can actually participated in the Lords great design. You need good soil for planting seeds like potting or gardening soil and mix in a little sand or perlite for starters .Seed packets come with instructions just fellow them. Those black plastic flats that you buy your starter plants in These are good for starting see

Container of some sort are essential as they hold soil for the plants, Styrofoam or plastic cups works well for starter plants.remember seeds sprout quickly you will need larger type containers that can hold larger plants come time for replanting.

gardening soil conditions

Choosing the right crop to grow for gardening soil conditions and the area in which you live sometimes it is wise to plant more than one garden area.

In order to obtain the  types of crops that you require, all this depending on gardening soil conditions and terrain availability .

There are a number of different ways a garden can be beneficial to a family unit. A field full of green growing food separated by the rows that have been individually cultivated and planted by the hands of  your family.

Breathing the fresh oxygen enriched air given off by the greenery enriching in more ways than one. This is yet another reason to pant food that will be enjoyed by the family

Before the garden is started it must be planed and designed this is the first  stage of involvement for the family.

By soliciting the opinions of all family members in the planning  and design stages, every one  gives a little gardening advice on how to grow a garden

I know this does not sound like it means much, in today world it is a means to get the family out of the house away from the couch,  computer, Television, electronic games.

Giving another reason for the much needed time for family bonding. That is worth the time spent in the great out doors.

Still it is just beginning of the reason for a garden, getting your hands in the soil and those of your family reconnecting with nature.

The exercise that we need can be received from the variation of movement it takes to rake, hoe, bend, pull, just the exercise you get in the preparation of a garden is a work out.

Using gardening as a way to get in shape or lose some weight is just another plus. The vitamin D from the sun is another reason then there the tan do not forget sun screen.

Raking the yard and surrounding area is more exercise but this is a another useful way to aid your garden in the form of mulch the plus in this  the yard improvement

You will find that a lot of family problems can vanish while care is given to the garden and the garden is being weeded at the same time, yes my friends A garden has many virtues
