I know you probably have read gardening books that gave you some tips on garden design, and been told by everybody that has ever planted a garden and thinks they too are a professional gardener, and wish to share their secret tips on garden design.
Who am I to change lanes or advise delivery on such a well traveled road, a job done so much better by my predecessors? I would but ask your indulgence as I try to share the impressions form the scenes I beheld and impart through my gardeners eye.
Have you ever been driving in the country, and as you pass an average home, suddenly the whole place takes on a surprising beautiful eye catching quality. It’s sort of shocking, realizing what it was that brought on this awesome transformation.
First glance it was just any ordinary home on a piece of sculptured ground, until your eyes were transfixed by the garden. Without a doubt in your mind you knew this is the way a garden was meant to be.
Such a feast of beauty for the eyes, that it enhanced the entire grounds and home. I would have gladly taken notes from this man for his Tips on Garden Design.
These people I must admit had an eye for beauty he was an earth artist, and deserved a trophy for this beautiful gardening design. She had impeccable taste for color
I have often likened a well designed garden unto an artist’s use of oils or a sculptured masterpiece, the rows being his brush, or chisel, the plants his paints, the ground his easel and canvas.
Some of the garden paths were made of colored gravel, while other paths were made up of different shades of soil. These methods would work in larger gardens as well. An expanse of manicured lawn space broke up the beds of flowered plants and the soon to be harvested food portions of the garden.
I remember thinking that the person living here must have held an important stressful job. In the middle of this expanse of garden beauty was a pond built with different kinds of stacked marble, shale, and arranged white limestone. Colored underwater lights lit the pond center. There a statue of a maiden stood pouring water from a pitcher.
On the right side a little vine-covered gazebo held two chairs facing out over the pond. You could tell it was arranged to encompass the majority of a well earned artistic endeavor.
Two my way of thinking a man built this for the pleasure and love of his wife, the home, the fenced in yard, the sculptured earth masterpiece. As well to relieve the stress of there daily lives, so you see a garden can be of use for many things besides just food.
